The opening ceremony in Sochi was recognised as the most large-scale ceremony of the Winter Olympics and remains our biggest project, prepared over two and a half years by a huge international team. More than three thousand performers of different genres took part in the show. Especially for the ceremony, a stage ceiling was built within the existing football stadium, effectively turning the stadium into a giant theatre hall. The plot of the Opening developed around the dreams of the girl Lyuba, her tour through the landscapes and historical epochs of Russia — from the mythological Middle Ages of the "Sacred Spring", through the Peter's Era and the noble balls of the XIX century to the revolution of the early XX century, the era of the Russian avant-garde, constructivism, the theatre of machines and ending with the idyllic Moscow of the 1960s.
